Pharmaceutical traceability

Dans le domaine de la santé, la traçabilité pharmaceutique, bien plus qu’un enjeu, est une obligation réglementaire.

PHARMACEUTICAL TRACEABILITY: WHAT IS IT?

Traceability is an essential concern in the pharmaceutical sector. It consists in codifying each drug to ensure its follow-up from the laboratory to the patient.
This coding incorporates information such as:

  • sell-by date,
  • The lot number.

The pharmaceutical laboratories are therefore obliged to implement optimal and increasingly specialized identification techniques such as the 2D barcode that gradually replace the traditional barcode.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS DRUG TRACEABILITY

In the medical field, the establishment of effective pharmaceutical traceability aims to:

  • Guarantee the quality of the medicinal product,
  • Ensure effective drug monitoring at all times,
  • Protect the patient and preserve public health,
  • Ensure the compatibility of the drug with the patient,
  • Know the expiry date of medicines,
  • Fight against counterfeiting,
  • To allow the withdrawal of a medication in the event of a problem.

Traceability is a major concern, and often a requirement, for the medical and pharmaceutical community. In the event of a product recall, public safety and health are at risk. Manufacturers need the ability to quickly and positively identify and isolate all suspect products in the supply chain. Without readable bar codes and human readable production dates and lot numbers, product recalls are difficult, if not impossible, to manage.
